callieprinari -> GIF to CUR Conversion (12/15/2005 9:00:08)

Hi!

Does anyone know how a gif file can be saved as cur?

Would I need any special software to open the file (which can also detect the file) and save it there with that extension or there is a simpler way?[sm=ask.gif]

Thanks

Cal

If you have an editor for .cur files I would think you could just copy the gif file and paste it into the editor.

Otherwise, I think Irfanview can convert it (open it as gif and save as cur) and I'm pretty sure Irfanview is free software on the web.

It opens it, but it doesn't give me the option to save the file as cur or ani.

Any idea?

Thanks

Sorry about that I just scanned for something that supported both file formats. Do you have a cursor editor?

I would think that cursor editors would allow you to paste in a gif.

If you go to a place like download.com and search for "cursor editors". I found Justcursors 1.0 here:

Sorry, I'm not horribly experience in this area. Just trying to help.

It doesn't open the file. Instead I get the message that file might be corrupt or not ani or cur, which is not anyway (it's a gif).

Thanks anyway.

I wasn't thinking you could open the gif with the cursor editor. I was thinking you would open the gif in something like paint, then copy it to the clipboard and paste it into the editor.

Just like you can paste into Microsoft Word even though it doesn't open .gif files directly.

Did you try that?

I managed!![sm=yupi3ti.gif]
Here is how!
1. I downloaded the trial of ICONStudio 5.0.
2. I opened the orginal gif file (that is never opened with Irfanview or anything else) with Adobe Photoshop Elements and I saved the file twice as normal and interlaced.
3. Then I copied the image.
4. Open the ICONStudio 5.0.
5. Open a new icon (from the first button below the menu)
6. Then paste the image using the 4th button from the end.
7. Save first as an .ico file
8. Then open the .ico file you just saved as a .cur
and celebrate!
