simple networking - 12/15/2005 13:49:14
i'm looking at networking 2 computers in my bosse's office - just trying to find out the basics so it's all a bit new... they both have win xp and i think they have cable internet connection (possibly one box with several line connections??) anyway reading some google results it seems that i only need an ethernet crossover cable (and ethernet cards on the machines which i assume most modern machines have (?) any tips to help out this would be much appreciated :)

2 machines you can do with just the cross over cable between, more than that and you'll need a hub.

you will probably need a router. A crossover cable will network the two machines, and is great for moving data between the two. However unless your machines have more than one ethernet card and I haven't seen that before.......how are you going to connect to the net? Your network connections are being used for the crossover cable
