Custom Behaviors in FrontPage 2003 - 12/15/2005 22:02:32
Do they require a Windows server and/or Team SharePoint like most everything else cool in FP2003?

I'm build all my sites on a Linux box, and the only reason I haven't upgraded from FP 2002 is because all the new features seem to be server specific to MS ...

Can you give a specific behaviour?

I'm pretty sure you're right, as it's heavily tied in with other MS products, especially if you are using FP extensions.

No specific behaviors --- just the feature in general.

Can anyone confirm either way?

I've had a look through the documentation, and it's not explicit.

(Perhaps you know this, so please don't take offence, I'm not trying to be patronising!:))
The custom behaviours are basically microsoft jscripts that are used along with meta tags to access the Behaviours API.

What I can't ascertain is whether you need the API to exist on the server or whether once you've run it once in FP you can just use the page anywhere (as long as you embed the script or link to it in a folder)

I've got FP2003 so I'll create a page for you, post it up here along with the jscripts and you can see whether you're able to use that code on a Linux box - I think the only way you'll solve this is to try it!:)

Can you bear with me though Ken, I'm really busy today so it might be tomorrow? Let me know if you're under pressure for this and I'll try and squeeze it in today.

I searched thru a few of the custom behaviors and as stated it was basiclaly JavaScript / META tags. JavaScript is ran on the client side so Internet Explorer, you would probably be OK. Firefox, you might have some problems with. You would be better off using other JavaScript actually if really needed.

No hurry, really. Just researching ways to improve my work.

And I'm also seeing from this and many other things that Firefox is going to hold back the Internet the same way mid-versions of Netscape did. I either have to dummy down or tell the 5% of the market to convert to the one true religion (Microsoft). :)

Actually, the future clearly lies with AJAX, and I don't know squat about the technical implementation of it. :)
