Active Dekstop problems!! - 12/19/2005 10:03:46
Hey guys. I havent been here for a while and I've almost forgotten what to do!!! But here goes.

I'm trying to make an active desktop for my computer. I've created a media player that will run from a webpage (anyone wants the code just ask!) and it runs fine in my browser. When i come to put it onto my desktop however, it cant access the child frames of it's parent (if that makes any sense at all!!!). Im using iframes to keep my content separate and make it easier to debug when I get a problem. Is there any way round this problem without getting rid of the frames?

I had a suspicion and did a quick test. With WinXP-Pro the iFrames won't work if I define the URL as c:\inetpub\wwwroot\blahblahblah.   They work fine if I define the URL as http:\\localhost\blahblahblah\

I don't know if this is your problem, but it's worth checking.

Andrew

PS. And I'd enjoy taking a look at your code.

I'll post my code as soon as it's working properly, there are a couple of bugs in it at the moment!!! Watch this space!!!!!!

As for the solution. I'm afraid I'm using XP Home Edition, so I cant use the http:\\localhost bit (no IIS)!! Any idea where I can get IIS or something that does the same job for use with XP Home?

Well, there is this thread, but I think you would be ahead to just go ahead and upgrade to XP-Pro.
