z_crawford -> ASP CDONTS Problem (12/19/2005 12:34:58)

Hello All,

I'm a newbie to the forum and everyone here seems like they are pretty knowledgeable about coding. I come more from the server administration side and doing more administrative VBScripting for Active Directory. I am currently trying to implement a form that uses some Javascript for expanding content. For example, you click on a "+" sign and it expands to reveal text fields and checkboxes that a user needs to fill out to request. This functionality has been customizes using flooble.com's Javascripts. Neat little things they are...

For the ASP page, I am trying to customize brainjar.com's ASP formmail code, but I am having some problems with it not submitting at all. I am currently using the CDONTS messaging component on an IIS 5.0 webserver running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

I appreciate anyones help on this. I am really trying to customize this and also have it only submit the form with the text fields and checkboxes are either marked "on" or have a value within the field.

If there is also a way to send an e-mail based upon a string in a text field, with a carbon copy always going to "issecurityadmin@domain.com" and that could send an e-mail to another e-mail based upon a checkbox, that would be great. I saw some IF / THEN / ELSE type code on here, but I'm not sure how to implement it properly with the above code. Any and all help is appreciated.

Zach

Do you know if the basic script sends email?
(YOull need to use the correct variables for the missing values)

       set mailObj = Server.CreateObject("CDONTS.NewMail")
       mailObj.BodyFormat = 0
       mailObj.MailFormat = 0
       mailObj.From = fromAddr
       mailObj.To = requester
       mailObj.Subject = subject
       mailObj.Body = body
       mailObj.Send
       set mailObj = Nothing

I haven't tested just the basic CDONTS script, so I am guessing that I should just strip it down and start from what you posted.

Hello Spooky,

I tried to test the following code for the ASP page:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
<title>Form Mail</title>
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBScript" %>
<%     set mailObj = Server.CreateObject("CDONTS.NewMail")
       mailObj.BodyFormat = 0
       mailObj.MailFormat = 0
       mailObj.From = fromAddr
       mailObj.To = "vkolipak@tmmna.com"
       mailObj.Subject = subject
       mailObj.Body = body
       mailObj.Send
       set mailObj = Nothing
   end function %>

I get a Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400' when I try to run this. I believe this is because of the end function and that I may not be stopping the VBScript correctly. I would appreciate the help!

Spooky -> RE: ASP CDONTS Problem (12/19/2005 14:46:05)

CDONTS has been pretty much obseleted by CDOSYS, so that would be my script preference - but certainly check this one works first
