Flash Intro and SEO - 12/20/2005 15:57:48
I may need to do a flash intro for a website. I haven't done much with flash but I have heard that it is bad for SEO because search engines can't crawl the page. I was worried that if I have a flash intro that it would take away the home page from being indexed. Is there a way to keep the content you want on your home page and still do the flash intro on the homepage? Or does it really not matter much anyway because only backlinks really matter? Anyone have experience dealing with flash intro pages and SEO?

you could do both! a FLash movie can be any size you want - doesnt have to be the entire page. you can have a flash movie and text content if you wish.

Think about this.... You have a page with little content and a flash intro that catches everyone's eye. They bookmark it, and pass the URL along to their friends. Soon enough you find out that quite a few people are linking directly to your intro page because of how it is eye catching, thus creating backlinks. Another scenario, you have an intro page without flash and with a lot of textual content on it (something that is updated frequently) and the SEs see it, but you have very few backlinks. Assuming the backlinks you have are actually relevant, and the text written is useful, I think the first scenario would be better. But there is quite a bit you have to look at, other than just the flash intro page. What kind of website are we talking about here? Do the competitors make good use of the phrases on their website? Intros used to just consist of an image that says 'Enter' but people are coming up with much better ideas for an intro page. If you can find something that links to the main pages on your website, and also a cool flash movie, along with well written text, I think you will find an intro to be very useful- but when you add that much to the page, can it still be considered an intro page? quote:
