Frontpage 2000: Can't open web. PLEASE HELP!!! - 1/2/2006 23:30:49
Hey everyone, happy new year!!

This is my first post here, and I've got to admit... I'm desperate for help!

First some info about the computer:

Processor: AMD Semphron 1.8ghz
Ram: 192MB
OS: Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2

FrontPage 2000

Now here's the problem:

When I try to open my web in frontpage, I get the following error message:

"The folder 'http://transformedmusic.com' isn't accessible. The folder may be located on an unavailable volume or protected with a password. " I also get the error message when I try opening it as "http://www.transformedmusic.com/".

I can access my website through internet explorer on this computer and on others, so I know it's not the website. I have tried loading my web in frontpage on another computer and it works just fine but the problem with that is that computer isn't really mine. So I have a dillema... the problem is exclusive to my computer, and I can't figure out what it is!

I've tried reinstalling Frontpage numerous times, and that doesn't work. I've checked all my firewall settings, and they're fine.

As I was reinstalling Frontpage I got the error message:

Microsoft Server Extensions
Unable to access configuration for Microsoft Personal Web Server.

I don't know if that's relevant, but I figured I'd include it.

Of course I've searched the support.Microsoft.com knowledge based and tried everything on there to no avail. I've compared internet settings on both computers, and they're all set the same.

I am completely and totally stumpted and frustrated. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi David,

Welcome to Outfront!

A few quick suggestions:

1) Ensure you have all the latest Windows updates and Office updates that pertain to the version you have.

2) Someone else reported that the same problem was fixed when they uninstalled XP hotfix 885250

3) Try reinstalling the FPSE on the server. I tested your website here:

http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm

... and it reports no FrontPage extensions installed on the server. So they may be corrupt.

Another possible solution:

The error is: The folder 'http://www.yourdomain.com' isn't accessible. The folder may be located on an unavailable volume or protected with a password. For details see c:\WINDOWS\TEMP\wecerr.txt.
This error is typically generated because you are or have been on a network that is using a proxy server. To fix this use the following steps:

1. Click Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Double click on the Internet or Internet Options icon.
5. Click the "Connections" tab to bring it to the front.
6. Click the button labeled "Settings".
If you are using a LAN, then click "LAN Settings" at the bottom.
7. Click Advanced
8. Locate the section of the screen that is labeled "Exceptions".
9. Enter the address of your domain. For example if your domain was http://www.yourdomain.com, then you would enter *.yourdomain.com in the box for exceptions. What this does, is disables the proxy server for this particular domain. Which in turn allows you to access your site through FrontPage.
10. Click OK until you are back to the Control Panel.
11. Close all open windows.
12. Exit FrontPage.
13. Reboot, and then attempt to access your site again with FrontPage.

Thanks for your help Kitka, that Knowledge Base Article... I swear I looked at ths before, but always stopped reading when I saw in the steps to resolution: "NOTE: Do not perform this step if you are using Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP," somehow I missed that it was refferring to THAT STEP and not the whole article... eh... that's what sleep deprevitaion will do to you i guess..

Again, thank you so much for your help!
