256 meg of memory isn't a lot if you're running a lot of apps. I found a few months back mine was slowing down (then I realised I'd got loads of stuff running in the background that I could never be bothered to close down [:D]). Couple more sticks of RAM and I'm back to my former speedy self (well, PC is, dunno about me [:D]). If you're not running many apps and nothing about your system has changed, and it sounds like you're doing all the sensible 'housekeeping stuff' it sounds like it could be malware/virus related. Which anti-virus are you using? All av's aren't the same (there have been some interesting debates about the pros and cons of the different ones around here over the months) - different anti-virus software will pick up different things. I run AVG, Spyware Guard, Spyware Blaster, Spybot Search & Destroy and No Adaware (I'm paranoid [;)]) - though i don't runs scans all at the same time otherwise they all pick each other up and don't play nicely. There are loads of different ones out there, and many of them either have a free version (including AVG) or a free trial. It might be an idea to download one of them and see if anything turns up. Hopefully someone'll be along soon who knows much more about these things than me, and while my eyes may be open, brain's not yet kicked in this early on a Sunday. [;)]
