WTF? My RAID set up vanished - Urgent - 1/9/2006 12:24:23
Was cleaning out my PC before as it was minging, so I dug it all out and got rid of the dust and crud. This involved removing all leads and such and unplugging power supply etc etc. Went to reboot and all of a sudden my RAID set up (RAID 0) is not registering properly/broken? quote:
Broken RAID detected.Do you want to enter Setup Menu.(Y/N)? ARGH!!!! Is there anyway to recover the original set up or I am Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo Echo Delta'd? I really can't afford to lose this RAID set up as it's my OS drives and I have a few items still on this set up I need to get. If I can get them I can resetup the drives and reinstall windows no worries, however not having to do that would be first choice obviously. 2X 80GB Western Digital SATA drives in RAID 0. WinXP pro Asus P4S800D-X MOBO P4 3ghz Help, pwease... =/

Make sure ALL of your hard drives are connected just like they were before. Call the MB support number and see exactly what happens when you select yes or no. I had a problem with my raid once, but it was my fault that caused it. I put in a bunch of hard drives, but somehow mixed up the 74gb with the 250gb, and couldn't figure out why it was saying my raid was broken. I finally took it apart and put it back together, I saw the error and that fixed my problem.

Well, while it is working, now might be a good time to learn a bit about your raid setup (configuration/troubleshooting).

ok, first of all... you guys are horrible help... dont answer a thread unless: A. you know the answer and would like to help... or B. you are bumping the thread because you have a similar or identicle issue... now... you should have tried different cables and yes, calling your mobo tech # is a good idea as well [ESPECIALLY BEFORE GIVING UP AND ZIPPING YOUR DRIVES BACK TO THE STONE AGE...].... Most likely it was a bad cable, SATA Cables are very cheap these days in cost and that usually goes the same for the quality... after you get your controller recognizing both drives again you will probably get the "NOT A SYSTEM DISK, ETC." ERROR... THIS IS GOOD!!! NOW. REBOOT, HOLD F8 [or whatever your hotkey is for the BOOT MENU] and then SELECT YOUR SCSI HDD OPTION.

If the MB could see the drives, why in the world would the cause be a problem with the cable connecting the drives. A bad cable wouldn't allow you to see the drives in the first place.
