Headline keywords separated by (,) or (-) - 1/9/2006 18:32:27
From the perspective of the major SE's, are the following hypothectical headlines likely to produce different results?

((keywords: apples oranges bananas))

Free! Apples-Oranges-Bananas

Free! Apples, Oranges, Bananas

Thanks

Possibly if you use headings with hyphens without spaces between them (as in your example above) SEs may see it all as one word. Not sure. :)

The hyphen is a delimiter. I am not sure what a comma is viewed at in SERPs. I think it will have different results.

So based on that I did two searches by cut and pasting the text you have.

Free! Apples-Oranges-Bananas produced 7899 results.

Free! Apples, Oranges, Bananas produced 1,930,000 results.

Pretty much answers that one. I would target the latter phrase from a numbers perspective. Which traffic will be more targeted and easier to convert? Only log file analyses would answer that one.

Take care,

Brian

Nothing but a thing, hind site is always twenty twenty.

Keep in mind just because one phrase pulls in ten fold searches is it really the phrase you want to target? That is where the fun part begins. Quantity VS. conversions is where the 64 dollar question is.

Take care,

Brian

curious - why would you want to be in the group that show over a million hits instead of the smaller one?

With only looking at numbers I try to go after the more aggressive results. However if you look through my posts here over the years I have shown a pattern of starting with a generic term for my genre that fits my audience. I then drill down to more expanded and refined terms all the way down to the "money" pages. By throwing a larger net you get more fish. always remember though it is not about raw numbers, it is about getting terms that convert shoppers.

Sorry for not going deeper on my last post.

Take care,

Brian
