WordArt Still Looks Awful - 6/10/2001 17:16:00
My FP 2002 WordArt looks like a million dollars in Normal mode but views as 2 cent junk.

Nancy, I uploaded it and viewed it in IE5.5
Nav 4 and 6 using both a Windows and a Linux machine and the result is the same. El Junko.

Is this me or just the way Browsers render this stuff?

Thanks!
Mr Peach

Have you played around with the different settings? That might make a difference in the appearance. I know I found a slider bar for setting transparency which seemed to make a difference in the quality when I was testing.

At the moment, I can't remember where I found that setting, but I think it was when I right clicked, and then went to format Word Art on the context menu.

I'm going to make a dangerous assumption - that you're using the word art and it's still in .wmf format (windows metafile format.) There is very limited support for this format in browsers. Try bringing the graphic(s) into your grpahics program and saving it as either .gif or .jpg or .png format

Image composer which comes free gratis and for nothing with FrontPage has a gorgeous little "save for the web" feature in it's file menu which lets you pick and choose. I use it all the time.

Hope this helps :-)

I tried all the options that comes with WordArt and nothing helps. The letters are extremely ragged. It looks like WordArt uses VML.

I'll go back to using gifs, but this was a nice feature that was quick and would have produced a faster download.

Wondering if anyone else has the same problem?

This is from MS support page. VML is not fully compliant with their own currnet Browser! How confusing ;-(

Peach.
------------------------------------

The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft FrontPage 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a WordArt image in FrontPage 2002 and preview the image, either in
your Web browser or by clicking the Preview tab at the bottom of the screen, the
resulting image appears choppy, and shadow effects are not rendered correctly. The
image appears okay in normal view.

CAUSE

WordArt is created by using the Vector Markup Language (VML). In a Web browser, the
Vector Graphics Rendering (VGX) engine is used to draw shapes and display pictures
faster and with more fidelity. The Vector Graphics Rendering (VGX) engine uses the
Graphics Device Interface (GDI). In current versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE
5.5 as of this writing), GDI does not provide for the Anti-Aliasing that is required to
render WordArt the same way that it appears within the Office program, FrontPage
2002 in this case.
