Word and CSS - 1/19/2006 17:15:03
Hello all!
This is my first post and I'd just like to say that I have learned a lot just reading the forums, thank you all.
I am here because I have been assigned by my job to make a procedure manual/ departmental homepage. Originally I was just writing it, but then it got changed into putting it on the web too-basically everything including designing it. I knew nothing about anything relating to webdeveloping, and don't have anyone to draw upon who uses CSS. So, I have been voraciously reading various tutorials for the last 2 months while patiently waiting for server space.
Well meanwhile I have also been busily writing my content in MS Word. A lot of content.
I now have server space and Frontpage 2003 access. I am trying to get my CSS to work with frontpage (content from Word), but they'tre not playing well together. I have tried converting Word to HTML (no go), directly cutting and pasting, asking word to remove the formatting before cutting and pasting, and cutting and pasting using notepad.
None of this works. I am wondering if this is because of Word or because of Frontpage.
I can make my CSS work if I start with a blank page and link to the style sheet, but I can't seem to paste any content in and have it work OK.
I don't have a URL I can post because it's a company intra-web so I'm hoping with this explanation someone will have a solution. Also, I hear there is a macro one can download to remove all the Word formatting, but I don't think I can do this-- my company tends to distrust macros and I am not high enough within it to do it anyway. 
I am hoping someone has a solution else I will have to at least partially abandon my initial concept.

First I would create the HTML / CSS template that you wish to use. And then copy your content from Word into Notepad to strip out all the formatting. Now paste it into your Frontpage website.
Honestly, though - I would probably use tables instead of CSS until you got the hang of HTML

Notepad is a good idea. In case that doesn't work, you can cut and paste your content into an email and send it to yourself. Then open the email and cut and paste back into a CSS page in Frontpage. I've done this with Yahoo mail and it doesn't apply the formatting. Just a thought. If you need help with CSS let me know. I may be of some help.
