MailEnable server setup question? - 1/20/2006 11:11:38
I am running several sites from my "home" server and needed to setup Post Offices for each Domain as seperate accounts. The first (default) Post Office works great. It's website is the default IP for the server so no problem. The other sites are on the server with additonal IP addresses assigned to the server and are on ports 8081, 8082 and 8083. None of the Post Offices work except the first one as I mentioned. Is the problem that those other sites coming in on ports other than 80? I really need to get this all working for these other sites. I followed the directions for installing and configuring the standard edition of MailEnable. I wanted the Domains mail to be seperate but I'm not getting any mail in bound or outbound on the other three. Any help would be appreciated.

We use SmarterMail and usually POP3 is port 110 while SMTP is port 25. We have also designated another port in case an ISP has blocked port 25. I have not used MailEnable but have you checked those ports, opened them as well in case you are behind a firewall?

Those ports are open because the mail for the first Post Office works fine and is using 25 and 110. The MailEnable is free, did I mention FREE? It was one recommended to me for this type application and seems to be quite powerfull for a free Mail program. My thinking may be wrong but since the first PO works for the default website (on 80), could the fact be that it is having a problem with the other domain names being redirected to 8081,8082,8083 and such? I guess my question is can ports 25 and 110 be used by multipule Post Offices? Of course being free, there is no support available except the book and it doesn't mention this particular situation.

Don't know the particular product but most mail packages / components have a section regarding relaying. Ensure those other IP addresses are allowed to relay. Just a quick guess.

Also does it have webmail and if so, does that work? Since you are not receiving emails either - are they getting bounced? If so, what is the error message? Is the MX record set up properly?

rdouglass, yes the app does support Relaying but I've not set that up that I remember. I'll check the documentation on that. Corey, it does also have Webmail but I wasn't sure what that was so I just set up the default Post Office and it works fine so I didn't do any more. I'll check out the Webmail also..
