<base href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/ - 1/21/2006 20:06:06
Hi All:

I have been working on a site for several days, and only when I went to a remote location did I discover that there is a line right under the <head> tag which states:
<base href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/
plus the rest of my local path.

When I browse the site on my local machine everything looks fine. But, the extensions are all ending in "html?" or "htm?"

Any ideas? The site is at www.hostededucationsolutions.com

Thanks,
Mark

I imported a template site into FrontPage and used FrontPage to build the template into a site. I do not know where the Base tag is coming from nor what it is. There are some .js files in the template (header.js, mouseover.js, copyright.js and blockerror.js). I modified the header.js file to reflect my page names. There is also a css file which I have not modified.

The <base> tag specifies the base url (i.e. your domain name) so that in links you can use relative urls. At the moment it's pointing at your local drive. Simply change the local path in the <base> tag to your domain name (or whatever you want to use as the base url. It's not really necessary though as you're using relative urls anyhow, and it's working just fine live, so you can probably safely take out the <base> tag.

Extensions ending in html or htm are quite normal - web pages are written in html, so that's the file extension used to show your local machine and server that they're web pages.
