Newbie with hosting question - 1/23/2006 9:41:27
Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
I have 2 servers, one SBS2003 Enterprise server and one SuSE 10 server.
I want to serve my website but am having issues with what to call everything;
I have 2 domains, mydomain.co.uk and mydomain.com
I want to have my SBS2003 box as the dns server for the domain, so they would be ns1.mydomain.co.uk and ns2.mydomain.co.uk, BUT I would want the webserver to be my linux box.
My main question is, what do I call me domain when I install SBS2003? It pesters to call it mydomain.local, but if I do that, would it not have DNS resolution issues?
Can someone either baby-step me through what I should call the SBS2003 server (from machine name through to domain, remote access FQDN etc), or point me to a wealthy resource for setting up a webserver system?

First - you want your DNS on two separate servers. If your first DNS server is down, then people could still find you with your other DNS server.
As far as the name - some people have different naming conventions: trees, Greek Gods, fruits, vegetables, Greek Alphabet, etc. We mainly just named them what they were www1, www2, dns1, database1, dns2, mail1, mail2, etc
