Frontpage Slideshow Help Needed - 1/29/2006 13:19:03
Hi, I am making a website for a friend of mine at the moment. I have added 3 slideshow photo galleries. One of them works fine but i am having problems with the other two. When i click on preview the thumbnails remain but the full size version of the pictures will not load. I have tried deleting all three of the galleries and starting again but the had the same problem with the two of them. Does anyone know why this could be happening? Thanks, Louise

Hi, I searched the forum but couldnt find the answer. I'd really appreciate it if you could have a look at it for me. The url is http://www.botanicgreenhouse.ie/greenhouses.htm There are 3 galleries, the hartley range one works but the other two dont. Also when i preview in frontpage five thumbnails show up but when it is published all of them show up meaning you need to scroll across the screen to see them rather than using the arrows. Thanks, Louise

First suspect when FP components don't work right is always that the FPSEs might be missing or corrupted, so the first thing you should do is reinstall your extensions through your control panel, if you have access, or ask your hosts to do it for you, but it seems strange that one's working but the others aren't. Might be worth a go though. On the second problem, which browser are you using? I use Firefox and as you said, they display all in one long line in FF, but very ocassionally open up Incomptent Explorer to check out a site, and it's working fine in IE. FP galleries use propriatary code that only IE understands, so they won't display properly in anything but IE. There are some useful links around here to alternatives, or you could try somewhere like Hotscripts.com or Dynamic Drive.

Louise, it's something to do with the tables widths but as it is bot controlled I can't fathom it. I would seriously suggest that you download Web Album Generator It's easy to use and much better than the FP Slideshow. You don't need to know html to use it, but if you do it's very customisable and it works well with FP. It also produces valid html and uses css, if that's of any interest to you. HTH Carol

Another way to do it without using external software is to create you thumbnails on a stand alone page (not used in the rest of the site... thumbnailspage.html or something like that). Then save that page. This will save your thumbnails (choose a seperate folder). Then, go to your gallery page and put the thumbnails using the Insert File method. Dont forget to link to the to the full size pic. The full size pic will open in a new window using this method (unless you change the llink properties). I doesn't look as pretty but it works much better and you will avoid the FrontPage auto-generated code.
