Internet Explorer 7 Beta - 2/1/2006 10:21:42
So I just downloaded and started using Internet Explorer 7 Beta. I have to say it's a lot different. Not sure how the program handles code yet. What do you guys think of it?

You can download it from here...just go to get Beta 2 preview

Don't think it's much of an improvement - more of a bugfix for IE6 plus tabs - They don't have much really exciting in there and still not up to the current levels of Moz, FF, Opera, Safari.

I'm living in hope that the actual release gives us a bit more.

For some reason I just don't care for the layout of the program.

Too much of a coward to actually download it - I was using via a remote access system - didn't notice a problem with the layout as I was just feeding all my sites into the address bar to see if anything broke (thankfully nothing that I noticed!!).

There are rumours around (Sitepoint) that this beta was causing BDOS problems and people were unloading it - but I don't know how true that is.

I will let everyone know if I run into any problems. Lucky this is a work computer that we just use for testing and breaking things. :)

I think that the problem is that a lot of us were expecting that all of CSS2 would be available with IE7 and it's begining to be clear that it's not which is a real shame. I'd love to be able to do more clever stuff in IE but I can't which makes me cross (stamps foot for emphasis).

Edit:
'parently IE7 will be included in a service pack upgrade to XP which will overwrite IE6 plus obviously it will be in Vista so it looks like a very high percentage of XP users will also be IE7 users fairly soon after it's launch.

Aw, Tail, now you've gone and spoiled my fantasy that it would be nice and well behaved and perfect, and...

What do you mean, have I been taking my medication? :)

*sigh* Alas, 'twas but a dream....:)

That's not cowardice, that is using your intelligence and erring on the side of caution (The right side too!)

On slashdot:

According to ZDNet, bug reports are already flooding in for Microsoft's new Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview. Specific issues include the possibility of arbitrary code execution as well as incompatibilities with McAfee Security Center, anti-spyware programs, and online banking sites." From the article: "... browser testers may already be at risk, according to security researcher Tom Ferris. Late Tuesday, Ferris released details of a potential security flaw in IE 7. An attacker could exploit the flaw by crafting a special Web page that could be used to crash the browser or gain complete control of a vulnerable system, Ferris said in an advisory on his Web site. Microsoft had no immediate comment on Ferris' alert."
