DSS -> I can't login to my server to make changes with frontpage (2/10/2006 9:02:29)

I have been using front page to manage my website ( www.westtexasarmory.com) for a few years now and I've never had this problem before. I'm running out of hair to pull out fixing it.

When all was working normal and I needed to edit something on my site, I would open explorer and go to the page I wanted to edit then click the front page icon at the top toolbar to open that page on the server in front page. A username and password popup box would come up to log in to the server and I would type in my info and I'd be in.

Since 5 days ago when I open front page that username and passowrd box will not appear and the page I need to edit opens as default page instead where I can't make any changes on the page on the server.

When I go to file and open page then type in the URL a error message comes up saying I do not have permission, password is needed or filename contains a / or\ It never even asks me for my password or username now and I can't figure out how to make it ask.

I've really been having fits with this. I even installed front page 03 on my wifes computer and it does the same thing.

I did FTP my page down to my desktop and was able to make changes there with front page then use ftp explorer to upload that page back to the server but I have been doing everything with front page for so long I would really rather fix the problem and use it exclusively.

My mother is a web manager for the servers owner and neither of them are able to duplicate my problem or figure it out.
Can someone here please help????????

Thanks
Dan

Did you try to reinstall the FPSE? Using FTP will sometimes corrupt the Frontpage Server Extensions.

Try going to File - Open web and typing in the name of the web, not just the page. Also maybe change your IE settings, check out Remembering Passwords

We did reinstall the FPSE's. I'm the only one that can't login though. My mother and the server owner can just fine.

I'll go look at my explorer settings again though. I might have missed something there. I'll let ya know.
Thanks a lot for the reply.

Oh, I did try getting in like you said too. telling it to open web and typing in the whole file name. That didn't work either.

DSS -> RE: I can't login to my server to make changes with frontpage (2/10/2006 19:23:49)

that didn't work either. I set it to prompt for passwords and looked through all the other settings for anything that could prevent me access.

The same error message came up. It said something like the folder may not be accessible, protected by a password or contains a / or\

Boy that's sure telling me a lot I didn't already know.

Why can't these error messages just tell you how to fix it instead of what is wrong??

Or would that put too many foreigners out of business? [8|]

back to the drawing board.

Have you installed anything lately or upgraded your system?

DSS -> RE: I can't login to my server to make changes with frontpage (2/11/2006 11:28:46)

Before all of this started, just the normal microsoft updates. Since it started I have had to completely restore this computer to the original settings and start over reinstalling everything.

My wifes computer, which also isn't able to acces my server is untouched. I have only been messing with this one trying to fix it.

Are you able to bring up your site with a browser since I am assuming you two are on the same network?

DSS -> RE: I can't login to my server to make changes with frontpage (2/11/2006 11:42:38)

yes it comes up fine in the browser. I just can't get frontpage to ask me for the username and password so I can edit it.

Here is the exact error message I get when I try.
The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or a \.

Is the folder / website listed in your network connections? Delete it if it is.

More information Error trying to open web in frontpage so others will know what has been suggested / tried

Well it's fixed. Or at least it will be tomorrow. I'm switching over to Mr. Brunts server here tomorrow. I'm sure I won't have any more problems then. He really impressed me with his knowlege of front page.

Well this sounds just like the problem I'm having.... if you get a workable answer will you please let me know and I will do likewise

(I'm going bald too!)

are you using Inreach by any chance?

stephengadd1 -> RE: I can't login to my server to make changes with frontpage (1/15/2007 7:39:01)

After experiencing the same problem, I went to Windows Update and downloaded all the recommended updates for Office 2003. Nothing seemed particularly relevant to this problem, but it's done the trick - FrontPage now presents a server logon window.

I hope this works for someone else too!
