Java error - 2/11/2006 16:38:30
Hi-- I'm running two websites (FP 2002, tables, on XP) but I'm still a tech dmmy. I saw a "Cost Of War" numerical ticker on another site--went to source--copied the suggested code and inserted into my HTML. It displayed in the right position on my home page but instead of the rolling numbers it said "javascript error." Someone told me I probably needed to Google a new java download. Went to Google, saw a myriad of sites which left me bewildered. Can someone tell me if the error message suggests the same to you, and if so, what should I do next? Thanks guys.

its javascript - not java - 2 different things. javascript is "finicky" a slight error in implementing it will break it. dont throw the baby out with the bath water. do you have a url we can look at? if you are using IE< go to tools/internet options/advanced... and uncheck "suppress script debugging" then when you look at the page, it will say "error - do you wnat to debug" click yes and lets see what that does.

Also Javascrip can call files from other directories which you would not have copied.

Hi--I followed instructions, and in "advance" instead of "suppress," I found: "Disable script debugging (internet explorer") and: "Disable script debugging (other). So I did nothing since I didn't know which to uncheck, or neither. Also, I didn't understand: "...a slight error in implementing it will break it. dont throw the baby out with the bath water." Plus: If the uncheck thing doesn't do it, should i be getting a javascript update, and if so where, and which one? Thanks.

RE: Javascript error - 2/15/2006 11:40:06
Hi DPF-- Just returned. I disabled both as advised, retried insertion of code, still didn't work: "Javascript error" appeared instead of rolling numbers that are displayed on: http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182 You said, "Can we see a URL? " When I think URL, I think address or page. Which address are you asking for? Also, should I leave the disabled notations unchecked? Thanks.

I gave that URL above: www.unclesammysays.com My home page where I placed the ticker. Anyway, I inserted the code once again in the same place, and republished so you could see it, and although it continued to say "javascript error" off line, when published--the ticker was working! You can check the page and see what all the fuss was about. Go figure. What made it work this time is a mystery to me, since I did this over and over again. Anyway, I thank you for your attention and patience with this stupid thing. You guys are terrific.
