djcc -> Cannot see SOME files and folders on server (2/13/2006 16:28:14)
|
I have a shared host account with godaddy. I encountered a few 500 errors yesterday, and opened a ticket with them. It is believed that the error may have been caused because I used an FTP client to move certain files from the server to my local computer. The site was otherwise created with FrontPage, and I guess FrontPage gets pretty screwed up if you access the server, something I did not previously know. The site was originally set up on a Windows server. I had it moved a few days ago to a linux server (prior to the 500 error). I know nothing about linux. I know only a tiny bit more about web development. Anyway, I reinstalled FP extensions, and the 500 errors went away (except for one, but I think that is an error in one of my database records, and I plan to delete the entire record). So, while godaddy is busy trying to figure out the 500 errors, I ran into something else, and I think it relates to their tinkering. In addition to my FrontPage site, I am trying to install Serendipity blogging. It was, in fact, files in the serendipity install that I needed to modify, and since they did not originate from within my local FrontPage web, I needed to copy them from the server, to a local web. So, following directions from this site for "reverse publishing", I loaded up FrontPage this morning. Strange result - suddenly, many of the folders on my site are not visible in my publish window, even though they were yesterday. I know they exist - because I can change certain configuration settings, such as new "themes", and to make that change, serendipity has to load new files from a different theme directory, which it does. However, I still do not "see" these folders. I have another issue where I will see 3 or more copies of the exact same file in the exact same folder.... something I thought to be impossible. Talked with godaddy tech support - they look at the site, and do not see file duplicates, and they DO see all the proper folders. So far, they have not offered me any solution. Any ideas????
