Publishing problem... - 2/13/2006 16:41:21
I'm suddenly experiencing problems publishing to a client's server through Frontpage and also FTP.

I've added no new software to my computer in the last week since this has started, previously i was able to publish with no problems at all.

The client has contacted their server who has indicated that they have no idea either as the my client is able to publish to his site ffrom Frontpage.

Any ideas?

Hi Nicole,

I don't have any helpful advice, except mentioning that is highly unwise to mix FTP and publishing with FrontPage if you have FPSE installed on the server. Using FTP can corrupt the FPSE.

Although, if that had happened, you'd imagine your client would not be able to publish using FP either. :)

It might be worthwhile reinstalling the FPSE though, just in case that is the cause.

Thanks for responding Kitka,

I only tried to ftp when I couldn't publish. I don't usually mix the two.

Could you expand on exactly what problems you are encountering please? i.e. what error messages etc.

Thanks for taking the time to help with this Kitka,

When trying to publish through FP, It wants to know the URL and the password neither of which have changed since I last successfully published, but it just won't accept the password. I try 20 times and it still doesn't accept it and then I press "cancel".

Upon pressing "Cancel" a new dialog box appears requesting that I enter the publish destination, it already has the URL in that dialog box so I press enter which takes me back to the dialog box asking me to enter the password which I try to do another 20 times without success.

When I press cancel this time though, a message appears that says "A web does not exist at http://www......... would I like to create one.

Pressing cancel at this point gets rid of the whole publishing idea, but pressing "OK" at this point brings up another dialog box which says "Unable to open - possible causes"

1. web server may not have FPSE
2. web server may be temp out of service
3. proxy settings may be incorrect
4. error may have occurred on the web server.

That's about it, sorry for not typing all of this in the first place.

Nicole

One very quick suggestion, try rebooting your modem. Unplug it from the power for a few mins so that when it reconnects you get a new IP address (if you do it instantly, you will usually get the same old one).

Doing that has fixed similar problems for me in the past.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try that and see what happens.

With this new ISP I've amazingly been connected continuously for weeks now, maybe it needs a reboot. I also thought about trying to publish using the other computer.

Will post any findings here in a little while.

Thanks again

Nicole

That worked. It works on the other computer also.

Thanks Kitka!
