Reflect -> 2 Checkout.com (2/14/2006 14:08:03)

Anyone use this form RECENTLY?

I am only seeking comments on transaction expierence and customer service as related to a CC gateway service.

Thank you,

Brian

Hi Brian

I've never seen a company move the goal posts so often and then blame the user's software for the problem. Psychic powers and the patience of a saint required.

Well technically, they are not a gateway - their business plan is reselling your services / products to bypass rules and regulations of Visa / MasterCard in being a third party processor. A third party processor is usually a company in which you are directed to their website to capture and process a credit card transaction and they charge more than a normal merchant account (in most instances) to pay for the other services.

They are OK for some merchants but if you are in the United States / Canada and expect to do more than $1,000 a month - consider getting a merchant account along with an electronic payment gateway (Verisign's Payflow, LinkPoint, Authorizenet.com). If you only need a few transactions to be processed a month and can wait up to two weeks for the money, they should be OK. You should make sure though and verify that your product or service can be sold by them before signing up, otherwise you run the risk of having your account suspended and then you might have to wait for your money for about six months (in case of chargebacks).

Guess that sums it up.

Thank you,

Well things have changed since I reviewd these last. Seems authorize.net is now very price competitive. I even am negotiating the % rate charged even prior to coming on board via resellers [:)].

Take care,

Brian

Keep in mind that Authorizenet.com is not a merchant account provider - it is only an electronic payment gateway. You mgiht be negotiating the merchant account processing fees actually?

Reflect -> RE: 2 Checkout.com (2/16/2006 8:34:46)

Authorize.net is doing both. The gateway is $20 and the on-line merchant account (I believe will be Wells Fargo) is$9. Both are monthly.

Yes you are correct, sort of. They have a $199 setup fee, waived. The % on transactions are what I am playing back and forth with. However the rep is an AN rep, not Wells Fargo. I called AN direct after my post and this saved me .15 % right off the bat (I am assuming the reseller had padded the %s).

Take care,

Brian

Make sure you know who it will be done by. Most MAPs have a contract and check out Wells Fargo's. A lot of customers sign a three year agreement with them and they do not realize it.

Was the representative from Resellers or their company? SOrry just trying to look at the time line and figure out if you actually called Authorizenet.com before or after.

As far as Authorizenet.com and their prices - usually they are stable. Some of the resellers can get you 250 free transactions if they have been with Authorizenet.com for quite some time. They are one of the gateways that actually charge as well for transactions (LinkPoint does not). And Authorizenet.com does not charge a percentage on the transactions - that is from the merchant account provider (MAP)

Mojo -> RE: 2 Checkout.com (2/16/2006 10:32:32)

Wells Fargo does have a contract that imposes a fine if you end the contract early, but after using many merchant banks personally and having set even more up for clients I have to say Wells Fargo is the best.

Nigel -> RE: 2 Checkout.com (2/16/2006 11:45:13)

Hi,

Not been here for a while - very busy!

I have 3 of my clients using 2checkouts services successfully.

They are ideal if you don't want or don't have a merchant account and want to take credit card payments online. It's quick and easy to get going with them though yes - they are a bit more expensive and yes - you do have to wait 2 weeks for your money.

Most of the online payment processors insist that you have a merchant account and indeed are only geared to work with businesses that have one. If you have small volumes of sales or are in the intial stages of setting up a business then the cost of the merchant account can be more than the additonal costs of using a company like 2CO. As your volumes increase the scales tip the other way in favour of the merchant account and online payment processor.

Nigel

Hi,

Timeline, called three resellers, got good results but wanted to see what the horses mouth said being AN.

AN has no contract, of course, as for wells fargo I am not sure. I faxed in my "application" today (Really the wife did). She gave it a good read over but I have not had a chance yet.

I'm really not worried about a contract with wells if they make us sign one. We have used them in the past for other e-comm ventures and they have been great.

I do agree with Nigel. One thing I have learned over the years is never put out money unless it is truly needed. Explore options and start small. As growth demands it reinvest back into the business. Our volume is low, the site is more a brochure site for locals to look at. However I thought why not leverage some online sales to boot, just to see. Oh and also get some AdSense going and join some appropriate affiliate programs.

My only concern is the service we offer might be deemed as "high risk". If it comes down to that then I will default back down to 2CO or just go back to Pay Pal Pro using an 800 number on our site and then input information into the virtual terminal.

The last paragraph I think is going to cause me the most frustration.

Take care,

Brian

coreybryant -> RE: 2 Checkout.com (2/16/2006 12:37:58)

Check with other acquirers and processors as well. Different ones have different categories as far as what they deem to be high risk.

And no, usually no gateway will have a contract of sorts - this is usually on the processor's side

Andy from Spain -> RE: 2 Checkout.com (2/16/2006 16:00:07)

Hi Brian

I know a lot of vendors will start off with 2Checkout while the store is getting established as they have no monthly fees, then switch to someone like authorize.net when the orders start coming in and patience wears out. For authorize.net it might be worth looking at e-onlinedata.com - we've had dealings with them and seem to respond very well.

Reflect -> RE: 2 Checkout.com (2/17/2006 12:48:40)

Andy,

Gave them a call. The rates postred on their site were high. On the phone we started talking about that. They pointed me to another page verbally, those were all in line on rates. Best part no contract.

Take care,

Brian

Hi Reflect

Been following this with interest, especially:

How do you get a virtual terminal with PayPAL please, I could really use that and have not seen it on their UK site. If I can use it is it very costly?

Thanks
Phil

Reflect -> RE: 2 Checkout.com (2/21/2006 10:35:39)

Phil, it is part of the package called Pay Pal Pro. Not sure about the UK as I am located in the US.

Two links, first one reviews the PPP system. The second nly covers the VT portion.

Hi

PayPal Pro is still only available for US merchants only.
