PHP AOK 4 FP? - 2/15/2006 0:52:23
Surely, that must be the most abbreviated post title ever. I should TEU-OHTALLY get a text-capable cel phone :>)

I've written a total of about 4 lines of PHP code in my life so far, but am looking into shifting the majority of my site from htm and asp to php. Is FrontPage, in everyone's experience here, an OK package to work with in terms of php, or should I put the learning curve effort into using a less Microsoft-oriented package, like Dreamweaver?

Anyone on here have a php site they designed/maintain using FP?

Any comments, suggestions, success/failure stories welcome, and thanks.

I've never tried it personally. I started php post-FP

What I remember from past versions of frontpage (2K +/-) is that you don't want to "Publish" php pages or code because they get the old frontpage sanitization technique in the process.

So the trick is you can use Frontpage, but only as an editor (for your php pages). You still get the benifit of the WYSIWYG, just not all of the program features :)

For instance: you'll need to learn to FTP the old fashioned way... and even then I'm not sure it won't try to futz with your work.

I've been using this for a long time: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net

If you don't mind hand coding (I actually prefer it) it's a pretty slick improvement over a basic text editor.

:)

And I use this to get the pages uploaded: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/

I've just downloaded this: http://www.evrsoft.com/1stpage3.shtml

I used the last one (v2K) and it was pretty nifty. I've been looking forward to this one for a couple years now.
