RE: I am new! But can do Basic - 4/13/2006 2:00:58
I'm going to try to finish typing a response, before the blood gushing from my recently cut wrists makes it impossible to see the letters on the keyboard. I have used MS operating systems only, starting with MS-DOS 6.22. I have used MS Office since 1995. The Word documents used on the Project Lynx website alone contain at least 500,000 words, with text, font and colour coding of more than 5000 internal hyperlinks. Other than Adobe Acrobat and PKZIP, I run nothing other than Microsoft programs on my working PC or laptop. I purchased FrontPage 2003 specifically because, being a political mathematician, as opposed to a programmer or webmaster, I figured it would be the easiest to maintain, and require the least time to learn. I check my test site with FireFox and Netscape, but 'optimize' everything for IE (latest and greatest version, of course...) The website itself is going to be promoted with a television show, which is itself part of a political campaign; despite its' critical role, it's not something I can afford to blow a lot of time on. Should I fetch some gauze, or just go calmly into the darkness? Please respond quickly; I'm feeling a smidge faint, already...

can I format hyperlink colours with a 'find and replace' type function, no reason why not time consuming though. depends on the number of pages rather than the number of links as this function (ctrl-F) can replace all instances in one go. Adding an external style to the links would be advisable if you might decide to change the colours again later as the site gets bigger. quote:
I colour code the hyperlinks on my site according to the type of document they lead to was always going to mean more work

Thanks for the response, Sir. I started colour coding links about 5 years ago, before I was even planning on a website --> I did it for my own convenience. Problem is, I did a half-ass job, 'cause it only had to meet my needs, and now that I'm trying to make it appropriate for someone else, I'll need to revamp the colour coding scheme, ONCE, provided I do it right this time. I was hoping there was a quick, easy way, other than paying somebody else to do it...

Sorry, but I'm an industrial engineer by training... Better, faster, cheaper; if it's not all three, you'll have to find another way that is, or go back to school, maybe for drama, or needlepoint...

Doesn't work that way in Web Design and development. You can't have all three otherwise quality suffers (the limiting factor being the human involved obviously).
