Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions... - 2/25/2006 17:13:06
I have a form on a website that has been functioning fine for over 2 years now. It is an html form that submits results to an email address and to another html file that is in the _private folder. It has a designated confirmation page, that has already been working fine for the past 2 years. I had a client call me and tell me that the form was no longer working, and when I tested it, rather than getting the confirmation page, I get the following error: Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page: "http://www.whatsupgreenville.com/feedback_confirmation.htm" The URL of the form is http://www.whatsupgreenville.com/feedback.htm. I have troubleshot this at length myself. The confirmation page has FrontPage include components on it. There's a top banner include, a left nav include, and a right banner include. All of which were implemented using the FrontPage Include Page component. When I remove the include files, all is well, and the form confirmation page displays fine. I have several sites hosted by the same web hosting company. I have recreated this issue on one other site, and on another site, the problem doesn't occur... this with all page variables being the same. I don't know if all of these sites reside on the same server. I cannot get my hosting company to seriously look into the issue, as I am getting the proverbial, "must be something you did." Since this form was working fine for 2 years, and I haven't touched it, and they have probably performed patches and upgrades on their servers, i tend to believe this is a server/FP extension issue not something I did. Any ideas? If you know of a solution or any documentation on the subject that I can give my web hosting provider, that would be fabulous. Thanks!!!!!

I somehow copied a period into the link to my form. The link should be... http://www.whatsupgreenville.com/feedback.htm

Have you reinstalled the Frontpage server extensions?

I can't get my web hoster to acknowledge that anything is wrong. I will ask, but I'm not sure that they will.

Well if you are having problems, all you need to do is to point them to that page and show them. Most companies offer a way to check the FPSE via the control panel.

I have checked the extensions myself using the vti_inf.html file. Here is the configuration information. <!-- FrontPage Configuration Information FPVersion="5.0.2.4803" FPShtmlScriptUrl="_vti_bin/shtml.dll/_vti_rpc" FPAuthorScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll" FPAdminScriptUrl="_vti_bin/_vti_adm/admin.dll" TPScriptUrl="_vti_bin/owssvr.dll" --> I agree that it seems simple enough that I should tell them I'm having a problem, provide them with the detail, and they would look into it. Unfortunatley, I have pointed out the problem, and the pages to them, and they are saying "Must be the way you set up the form. You should check your form set up." I have sent them an email asking them to reinstall the extensions. They are not very responsive on the weekends, so hopefully they will do this on Monday and maybe I'll get lucky and they will fix the issue.

Create a simple - one input form and publish it. Does it work? If so, your FP form itself might be corrupted. This happens as well from time to time. It does not happen that often but I have seen it happen a few times.

i've done everything six ways from sunday. The problem is not the form. It is submitting to the file and submitting to the email address just fine. The problem is with the confirmation page. The confirmation page has includes in it. When I remove the includes, the confirmation page will display. When I put the includes back in, I get the error message. The problem seems to be using a confirmation page with include files in it. But as I said before, it has worked before, and all of a sudden, it's not working. And if I create a new form that submits to a new confirmation page WITH INCLUDES, it does not work. Seems to be an FP extensions issue to me, but my web hosting company still isn't responding to my request to install them on the site. i'll keep researching and banging away at it. Thanks

These includes - are they included via Frontpage or server side? That is not good when the hosting company does not respond to your support needs either.
