Question on publishing... DELIMA - 3/2/2006 18:48:07
Hello, can someone help with this problem?

I will have two persons working on a FrontPage website from different computers.

The problem is that when one computer publishes an updated page, conflicts arise.

Then the other computer does not have the updated files in its version of the "web", so that the next time this computer sends an update it will create conflicts and over-rides the work done and submitted by the other remote computer. Negating the work done by the other person.

Is there a way for computer (B) to get an updated version of the web created by computer (A) before computer (B) makes changes to the web?

In other words how do you get two computers that are updating the same website at different times and from different locations on the same page???

So that conflicts do not arise, and worse yet, file names and web design structure is not changed from session to session?

Also, how imperative is it that both webmasters be running the same version of FrontPage software?

Also, I have the luxury in implementing this set-up, that the second remote computer/user/publisher has not yet been set up to publish to the website yet.

So, if you have any good suggestions on how to implement the set-up of the second computer/user to avoid conflicts etc.. Please lay them out for me.

Not in answer to all of your questions, but have you tried getting both designers to only upload the files they've been working on rather than the whole web?

Highlight the file or multiple files to upload in the left area, right click and select "Publish Selected Files".

I also don't think it matters what version of FP they're running, but I could be wrong on that.

Do you have Frontpage 2003? If so before Person A works on the site - sync the files before working.. This will download all changes Person B has made. Once Person A is done - sync the files again. When Person B works on the site - sync the files before working. This will download all changes Person A has made. Once Person B is done - sync the files again.

Look at the lower right hand corner - you should see something that says Publish all change pages and under that you should see something that says synchronize

Hi, still need your help on how to "sync the files" in frontpage 2003, Thanks ScrewEye

Sorry I try not to work in the forums in the evening since I do take care of clients as well and I need a little break from time to time
