non-link, printable characters separating links - 3/9/2006 16:46:58

Hi everyone,

I'm still working away at learning CSS layout in my spare time, this is what I've achieved so far and last night I decided to validate it. The only thing I'm failing AAA on seems to be the following, which I understand and have overcome on different sites in the past, but they were horizontal menus and not vertical ones like this Stu Nicoll's one:

quote:

10.5 Until user agents (including assistive technologies) render adjacent links distinctly, include non-link, printable characters (surrounded by spaces) between adjacent links.

* Rule: 10.5.1 - All Anchor elements not surrounding images cannot be directly adjacent.
o Failure - Anchor Element found at Line: 52, Column: 1 is directly adjacent to the Anchor element that precedes it.
o Failure - Anchor Element found at Line: 53, Column: 1 is directly adjacent to the Anchor element that precedes it.
o Failure - Anchor Element found at Line: 54, Column: 1 is directly adjacent to the Anchor element that precedes it.
o Failure - Anchor Element found at Line: 55, Column: 1 is directly adjacent to the Anchor element that precedes it.
o Failure - Anchor Element found at Line: 56, Column: 1 is directly adjacent to the Anchor element that precedes it.
o Failure - Anchor Element found at Line: 57, Column: 1 is directly adjacent to the Anchor element that precedes it.
o Failure - Anchor Element found at Line: 58, Column: 1 is directly adjacent to the Anchor element that precedes it.

Does anyone know how I can get around this?

Nicoole

jaybee struggled with that problem more than a year ago - and worked out a solution:

Thanks Kitka....

No not funky, I was just telling trhe other half how I've been so clumsy this morning and had just typed something with so many huge spelling mistakes in, guess I missed that one.

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look at it!

That worked a treat!

Thanks again and thanks to Jaybee (wherever she is), her hours of frustration have solved my problem in a matter of minutes!
