Reflect -> Aerial view stock picture photos? (3/11/2006 13:38:23)

Hello,

Is there a service like IStockPhoto that has stock aerial views of cities or even a more focused location in a city? It needs to be an aerial view though. I need to get a detailed photo of a local golf course.

I went through Google earth but it was not detailed enough of an image or I was doing it wrong (First time user). I also tried terrafly but it didn't it the bill.

Thank you,

Brian

Do you mean free stock photos because there are many services that offer aerial photos for a fee?

Yup, free.

If not for a fee. Hoping to find one already taken if it exists (I am thinking costs for the client here).

Thank you,

Brian

Do you want free and reproduction rights? I doubt that Google, Terra, etc. permit that.

Bobby,

PMd you for clarifications of settings.

<edit>Tried Goolge maps. Works great but can't zoom in close enough before getting the dreaded "no data" message.</edit>

Thank you,

Brian

Dankos,

You have popped in twice now but have not offered any alternitaves. Do you know of one I might use?

Thank you,

Brian

That's because you were parsimonious with critical information such as willing to pay and usage rights. Leaving that out puts the onus on those willing to help because they have to go through a lot of effort covering every possible case.

Off hand, the only thing I can think of is to use U.S. Government sources such as Landsat images.

If I remember correctly, if you get them online they cost money, but the cost may be nominal. In addition, even if Google had images of your golf course, your rights to use the images may be restricted.

Thanks for the pointers. Also you are correct about the missing information. Also yes the client is thrifty to break down the 50 cent word [;)].

I work by the local airport. On the way home the last two days I stopped by a few smaller flight outfits. I found one last night that had the needed photo, quite focused and perfect on the radius. They wanted $200, not bad. Passed the information on to the client. waiting to see if he wants to move forward. However he is quite parsimonious [;)].

Take care,

Brian

not sure about repro rights throgh Google...

Technically they can't own the photos, since they are taken with sattelites that Google doesn't own... but there may be other considerations. As far as zooming in close enough, depending on where it is you may not be able to.

In Seattle I can zoom in close enough to see leaves on the trees at my house, car in the driveway, even my compost pile in the back yard.

But the farther you get from major metro areas the lower rez the photos become.
