dpf -> page not found (3/12/2006 14:08:36)

I have a client with a site with over 4,000 links and he is concerned about broken links. Is there a way to determine from the site logs whenever a "page not found" occurred and exactly what the link was? thanks

Yup. Just look at the log files. It will depend on your control panel, but with cPanel, you will have a link to display raw access logs. Then just look at the ones with code 404.

If you don't see that option in the control panel, ask the host what they suggest you do in order to access them.

Or use a free link checking service like http://www.linktiger.com.

They check your website for broken links for free each week and when a broken link is found, you will receive an e-mail alert.

I have been using it for some months now for several clients/websites and it works great, especially the reports are very clear.
