Dear Friends,

I need to transfer all my data (including OS) from one SATA HDD to another HDD SATA / ATA via booting CD contains Norton Ghost on the same CD.

1) How to create booting CD along with Ghost software
2) If we run the Ghost from CD will it effect any of the HDD?

Awaiting for your reply.

Thanks
Manikandan

Have you tried contacting Norton Ghost's support? Unless someone here has done that before, you are better off asking Norton's support.

They are up to Symantec Ghost 10, and you can buy it for $69.99. After you buy it read this. How to copy disk-to-disk using Norton Ghost

I back up my entire hard drive daily with Norton Ghost (I know call me paranoid--but truth and experience are both a harsh mistress) and it is great for certain things. I do this in case of a catastropic failure --I have my main computer hard drive intact and can simply go buy a new hard drive.

If that is what you are trying to do, you need to BUY Norton Ghost and install on old hard drive, then back up that hard drive, then install Ghost on new hard drive and "restore" old drive on new drive. It will replace everything on the new drive including OS.

Of course all this assumes you have an external hard drive to back up to or burn many DVD's.

To the rest of you above, shame on you for acting as sales people for Symantec. They are not that wonderful a company especially their buggy, marginally effective antivirus product that don't properly detect a LOT of spyware. Plus their recent outsourcing to india which gives support not worth the CD their software is published on. To the poster asking for HELP (folks if you can't help don't say anything). here is your answer:

G4U
http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/

it handles everything including SATA and is easier to use than it looks. ITs open source and no cost. Hope that HELPS you.

Agree with dave. If I recall the question was asked how to use Norton Ghost...so why would we respond with something else?
