Network Printer Access Problems - 3/15/2006 9:55:24
Hi all!

Hoping to get a little help with Network printers.
I've got a pc with printer connected directly via usb cable and the printer is shared.
I found a nifty little document on Microsoft.com about how to globally install a network printer (because there are several users of a neighboring machine that would need to print).
The global install worked, but I had to add the whole Domain users group to the security tab of the printer itself to stop getting 'Access Denied' errors when trying to print from different user logons.
I couldn't find a way around it, which means, that anybody smart enough could print to this printer from any other computer they could logon to.
Anyway to stop that nightmare from happening?
Was there any other way to allow access to all users without having to add them all to the securities tab of the printer?

I would put every user you want in a group. Then only allow that group to print.

Thank you Brandon!
I have added everybody to a group, and allowed that group to print, but I don't want everyone in that group being able to print to that printer from other pc's that they can log in to.
Really, I only want certain pc's to be able to print to that printer, but when I added the machine name to the printer security tab, it didn't seem to work. I had to add the actual person that was logging in.
How can I allow access to everybody that logs on to one machine, but deny access if the same people log on to different machines?

There really isn't any real solution to hinder certain machines to print, you can only stop users and the groups they belong to.
The only way to stop someone from printing directly to a printserver is by denying traffic to that printservers IP in a firewall.

I have also seen this done with setting up different subnets.
