FPSE submit form to file works, but smtp does not - 3/15/2006 11:49:32
Please someone help. I have been working on this for months now. I have FPSE working and have tested successfully. I have also tested smtp on the same server successfully (including relaying, telnet port 25, and creating a text file in the smtp pick-up folder). In Mail Settings for FPSE, I have the smtp set as 127.0.0.1. Is there some wierd security problem maybe from applying windows 2003 sp1? Unfortunately, this is a production box where I cannot remove sp1 to test. This problem will send me to an early grave!!!!

1st thing that sounds a little odd to me, is that you're using the loopback address as the address for the smtp server, for example if you do NOT remove that from the sendmail.mc file in linux, the server will NEVER send mail other than to itself - however I'm no 2K3 Server expert. I'm having a similar issue - although with some additional problems, running on XP Pro, I can do the telnet 25 from an "outside" box, I can telnet to outside boxes on 25, I have setup Outlook express to use this box for email and it works fine. But the page I'm trying to get to send mail from, refuses to cooperate - last night, it worked 1 time, I had gone into the FPSE2K2 Admin pages, did a "check server health", with all the repair boxes checked, then a "recalculate web", then clicked in the upper left corner "home" - which takes you to your \\localhost (or whatever you named your webserver), when I went to the page via that route, it worked 1 time. Now, what would make it work, once and only once? I haven't the foggiest, hopefully somewhere we'll find a solution. In your case - I would set my smtp server to the boxes actual IP address, and not the loopback address. Hope that helps for you!

HI, I have figured out my problem. McAfee version 8 was blocking port 25. Fixed by going to Virus Console and going to properties of Access Protection and unchecking "Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail."
