Critique request: a second site I'm putting together - 3/17/2006 12:01:22
I designed my first site with your help, (www.stevegibons.com) and now I'm working on a second site for an artist friend of mine. All criticism appreciated.

thanks,

Steve,

(1) The "Venus of Venice" header displays pixelated and, while selection of this font style may have been intentional, it tends to stop the eye from the normal visitor behavior of reading top left to right, then down and back up.

(2) The text in the right hand box overruns into the gray background in Explorer 7, (3) the page seems imbalanced because there is too much background under the rotating images section , and (4) "©2006 Simplest Possible™ Web Design" needs to be repositioned in the absolute middle.

Overall this is a very interesting site, represents the artist's works fairly and showcases your designer skills in a favorable light.

Steve,

I like the opening page very much. I love the colour scheme and everything on there blends together very well. The two links in the banner and the one for the guestbook shouldn't "almost" disappear when hovered over though, perhaps they could start out not underlined and become underlined on hover?

But from there, there's just no consistency. I mean they are consistent, but just consistently plain compared to the opening page. If you could incorporate the lightbox for the images on your site found at this link http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/m-308232/tm.htm I think the pages could all complement one another.

the default blue borders on the pictures looks a bit naff as well - maybe if you incorporate the lightbox idea it will look better ;)

I like it! Congratulations!

How did you create the gallery? I noticed you used Jasco software but how did you do it?

Nice professional site. The sourrounding design should never still attention away from the main object which in this case are the paintings.

Thanks everyone!

I love that light box js, I will try to incorporate it. I haven't really looked at it yet, but I want it to degrade nicely, so if js is turned off the link will still work.

I have to figure out how to do that.

try it in the lightbox site: turr off js and you'll see that the image opens like a normal link - just an image in a plain window

The jasco software has a "create web page" thingy. It's not very configurable. I will change all that soon. It's ugly really.

Nice site but in my opinion there is WAY TOO MUCH info about the artist. It takes the focus away from his art.

Besides, only telling a little bit about the artist adds a mystique to the artist and the art.

But then again, what the hell do I know? :)
