Migrating from XP-Home to XP-Pro - 3/25/2006 13:14:37
I'm probably going to be buying a PC with XP-Home pre-installed. I want to install XP-Pro. I already have the full version of XP-Pro.

Should I reformat the drive and install XP-Pro from scratch or can I simply "upgrade" with the full version disk I own? If I can "upgrade" then is this recommended? Would I be better off starting from scratch or does it not make any difference whether I upgrade or start from scratch?

Thanks,
Andrew

Personally, Id do the full format and reinstall pro from scratch. Just piece of mind to know the specific files are used.

I agree

If you're starting from scratch anyway you might as well do it right... ;)

Thanks for the advice. I'll just do it from scratch. But to answer Dan's question ("...why not buy one with pro installed?"), it's because I can get a good price on the hardware I want. I'd buy it without the OS. I was just looking to save time on the installation. Maybe I'll be able to use the Home license on an older laptop that I've got.

Thanks again,
Andrew
