Google patents free Wi-Fi - 3/30/2006 13:15:00
"The search-engine giant has developed three technologies for offering wireless Internet access, and advertising, free of charge."

Here is the story.

I knew this was coming with the articles a few months ago, it was the ONLY answer in my mind.

Still though free with advertising. I wonder how many will use it? I think it will gain severe momentum myself...just look at GMail as a parallel.

Take care,

Brian

Has anyone heard about a possible launch date on this?

Wireless internet is still too slow for me to use on a daily basis, but this will have a huge impact on quite a few people/businesses.

Wimax is too slow? The latest standard hasn't been deployed yet that I know of, but I've been told it's way fast. No?

- Not sure what Wimax is. I've tried wireless b/g before and noticed a significant decrease in speed when compared to a direct connection to the router. When I said "Wireless internet is still too slow" I was only referring to b/g, so Wimax might be faster.

Its sad when you know more about how to break into a wireless network, than the actual network itself :)

- No. People have decided to publish more articles and tutorials on breaking in, than securing a wireless network. And the ones that show how to break in or get around, never discuss how to prevent it.
