I scanned a 4x6 photo at about 200dpi. I wanted to see how long it would take to come up on a page. Anway, I know that is too much and for the web it should not be more than 96. Here is the question. I scanned it at its normal size of 4x6 inches. When I inserted into the page, the picture was huge, something like 9x6 inches. If the resolution is too high, does it do that automatically??
My intention was to have a clear crisp picture on one page even if it meant the page takes longer to come up.

Sid,

The browser won't resize for you. You can:

1. Rescan at 96 dpi
2. Go into your editing program and resize

If you have Photoshop do Image, Image size..., check the Resample Image box, set the Resolution to 96, and hit OK. You should then have a 4x6 96 dpi image.

the web doesn't care about resolution only pixels!

there is no need to resample it (resolution-wise) simply resize it to the appropriate size in pixels e.g. 300pixels by 400pixels or whatever
