Publishing FrontPage Web using Filezilla - 4/2/2006 14:33:01
I will preface my questions with an apology. The answers to my questions are probably located somewhere on this forum, but it has been so long since I have done any web work, and since I have not used anything other than FrontPage to publish any sites, I am hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction. I have had a customer that I built a web for about 4 years ago using FrontPage 98. Two computers and two versions later, this fellow would like me to build a new site for a separate business that he is starting. He chose Netsol as his host, and although they are FrontPage friendly, they are HUGE and I find it difficult to get any answers since they are used to dealing with professionals. I'm sure my client is dealing with me because he knows that I am willing to barter my services for his product. He was also pleased with the work I did for him before. Anyway, I tried to publish a single page to his URL sustainablechoice.net, but I keep getting an error that states: Unable to open www.sustainablechoice.net Server error: moved permanently. I thought perhaps it was because NetSol has FrontPage Extensions for 2002 and I have 2003 on my computer. An e-mail from Netsol suggested an FTP such as Filezilla to upload the site. My confusion starts here. Everywhere on Netsol's site, they say NOT to use an FTP if you use FrontPage. My questions: Can it be done? is Filezilla the best choice? Is there a thread on this forum that will walk me through the process step by step? I have 98 version somewhere in this mess of an office that has FrontPage server on it. Should I install and use that? Any help anyone can offer will be appreciated. Thank you, Jean

Does he have the hosting plan set up yet with Network Solutions? It seems that it might only be parked: quote:
Checked link : http://www.sustainablechoice.net Type of link : 301 redirect Pointing to : http://apps5.oingo.com/apps/domainpark/domainpark.cgi?client=netw8744&s=SUSTAINABLECHOICE.NET Which makes me believe that he does not have a web hosting plan set up. Looking at the whois it shows only DNS Hosted (http://www.whois.sc/sustainablechoice.net) quote:

You can use FTP to put a web site on a server that was created with Frontpage. However if you used some of the FP components, especially forms, they will not work.

Sorry it takes so long to reply, but I can only steal moments this week. I scoured the website at Netsol to try and determine if my customer did indeed have a hosting plan and I believe he does. Here is what I just asked them: ______________ I have been having trouble publishing a web for my customer as you may tell by my previous communications Service Request Number 1-225577142 I published the web via FrontPage to 0064010.netsolhost.com I was able to see the page that I uploaded, but when I type in www.sustainablechoice.net into my url address bar, I get http://apps5.oingo.com/apps/domainpark/domainpark.cgi?client=netw8744&s=SUSTAINABLECHOICE.NET which leads me to believe that the domain name is not pointing to the right place. What can I do to fix this. ____________________ Am I on the right track? MY customer has had the hosting plan since March 7th so everything should be pointing correctly if it was set up right?

Correct. It seems that there might have been a glitch when he set up the hosting plan. And they might not be aware of it. I could not check out the whois on their site, Network Solutions was down this morning. But if you look at http://www.whois.sc/sustainablechoice.net talks about it being parked as well

Was it a hosting package or something else? If you could share that way if someone else is in the same boat, they will know what to do
