DIY - Computer w/ best bang for your buck $1000 - 4/3/2006 19:59:30
Often I hear friends ask what hardware to buy, usually they want the piece that has the best bang for your buck. This is exactly what the system below is. Feel free to search for product reviews using the model number and name to see for yourself. All the research has been done on what to buy and where to buy it. Every store has good resellerratings, so you should feel safe ordering from these stores. Typical user would include a developer who runs quite a few programs at the same time such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Outlook Express, etc. This user would be prepared to handle current games with the video card/cpu/2gb ram. BFG (video card) support runs 24/7. From personal experience, Need for Speed Underground 2, Counter Strike: Source, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, Call of Duty, and Doom 3 run without any issues at all on the 6600GT OC from BFG. The PSU is high quality, and will last for quite awhile. The motherboard box will contain everything you need to connect the drives and such. - AMD X2 3800 ( ADA3800BVBOX ) - $295 shipped > http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80721-1 - Seagate 7200.9 ST3250824AS 250GB - $89.99 shipped > http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101541 - Corsair VS2GBKIT400C3 2GB Kit DDR400 PC3200 - $135.40 shipped > http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80098-86 - K8N NEO4 Platinum - $113.98 shipped > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130484 - FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500 - $75.96 shipped > http://www.actbuy.com/details.asp?item=FS17500%2D2%2E0 - BFG 6600 GT OC Video Card w/ dual DVI - $119.99 shipped > http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=326007 - ND-3550A BK OEM - $36.99 shipped > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152058 - BenQ DW1655 16X Dual Layer - $49.88 shipped > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101006 - MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Model D359M3D/D359M3B - $11.48 shipped > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16821104101 - Antec Performance I P-160W - $102.99 shipped > http://www.buy.com/retail/Product.asp?sku=202021306&adid=17662 Total: $1,031.66 Add: - Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB Serial ATA 10,000RPM $155.90 shipped > http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101222 Swap: Go with an AMD 3200+ instead of the X2 3800+ if you don't use many programs at the same time.
