search engine submission service? - 4/4/2006 10:37:44
I currently pay a search engine submission service (submitnet.net) to submit my site monthly to search engines.

Is this worth it? Or should I just use my host's service and do it myself once/month?

thanks.

You might take a look at submission software for starters. If all they are doing is submitting your site - why every month? All it takes it once and then you need to have good / fresh content to rank high on most search engines.

You don't even need to submit. Just get a link or two and you'll be fine.

Hi! (first post here...)

There's only 3 SE's to worry about, Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

Once you get your listing there the other "smaller" directorys and engines will find you and begin to add you to their listings. How long until the others pick you up depends on lots of factors.

* stay away from automatic submission software *

If it helps, here's the free submission URLS for the above mentioned SE's:

http://www.google.com/addurl.html - Google
http://submit.search.yahoo.com/ - Yahoo
http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm - MSN

Hope that helps...
Tera

I respectfully disagree. Also keywords is debatable, it used to be a good META but isn't that weighted anymore. Description without a doubt as a few still use this.

Take care,

Brian

Hi Brian

I was trying to work out where your quote came from and what does it mean?

quote: <meta name="Generator" content="Generator company name">

Hi Kev,

There was a deleted message from what turned out to be a SPAM run right above my response. They were stating what METAs to use. The person was wayyyyyyyyyyy of base. I should have deleted my response, I slipped :).

Is there anything I can answer for you concerning META tags?

Take care,

Brian

hi Brain thanks for that.

Yes I do have a question about Metatags?

are you sure you want me to post it here?

A friend recently asked me this question (referring to )

<META NAME="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="TRUE"> this meta tag is on your www.bodiorganic.com site and I would like to know what this means as the word Parsing has no meaning that I can find anywhere what does this term mean and why do you use it?

My next question is this tag <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="FOLLOW ALL">

does this mean follow all of what the index and all pages to include link pages ?

The one my friend uses is <meta name="robots" content=all, follow, index"> Which one is better please?

Kev

- Here is a good exmplanation.

quote:

My next question is this tag <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="FOLLOW ALL">

- Follow all links that are found on the page that contains that specific meta tag. I think the syntax you want is "INDEX,FOLLOW" so it will index that page, and follow all links found on that page.

Kev,

Smart tags never made it out of the gate, concerning web sites. Office uses them but did not roll out that facet. The meta is worthless.

I would use follow and index for the content meta.

Take care,

Brian
