Excellent contribution.

I would add the following:

It isn't just hijackers businesses should be aware of; several customers of mine were paying huge amounts on pay-per-click plans. Such plans had been offered to them by their former ecommerce consultants. One of my customers hired an ecommerce fraud detection company. The result showed that the very same pay-per-click companies that provided the service were visiting his site from different servers. Each click cost my customer money.

Obviously, not every business has the immense resources that my customer has. Not all businesses can spend a considerable amount of money investigating.

The question left in up in the air is: how many small businesses ara paying through the nose for pay-per-click services?
