carrie -> Permissions for folders FP 2002 (4/21/2006 14:24:07)

Hi all,

Could someone set me straight on folder permissions?
Recently I bought space on godaddy.com to host our website. I asked them to change the permissions on one of my directories for file upload (pictures). On our old server, I had to call a tech to do this.
At godaddy, they said they are unable to do it, I have to do it through FP. I can right-click and set the folder to allow anonymous upload and get all of the scripting to work. Is that as secure as tech support changing the settings on the server? Is it more or less the same thing?

Thanks,
Carrie

Are you on a windows server, or unix/linux? If you're not sure, post a link to your site.

Sorry, thought I mentioned that I was on Windows platform.

Carrie,

What did you have to do to get this issue resolved with godaddy. I have the exact same situation and do not have a clue about how to open up the permissions so website users can upload files from the website enterface.

Did you have to uninstall frontpage ext first, then use the godaddy control panel to set custom persmissons, then reinstall frontpage ext.. If so, did the uninstall break your site.

Any details you could provide would be really helpful. I too am running the Windows plan.

No, I did not have to uninstall FP extensions. I had to right-click the folder (while in FP) and put a check in the 'Allow anonymous uploads' box. To do that I had to uncheck the 'allow scripts to be run' checkbox.

Good Luck

I'm having the same problem with my forms. I'm running on a godaddy.com linux server now. I was on a windows server and my frontpage form worked just great, able to upload files to a folder. Then I installed a live chat feature and was told to switch to linux/php servers. So I did.

Now when I use the form, a password box pops up without even trying to upload a photo on the form, just text fields. When I log in to my site directly using FP I no longer have access to the folder properties, anonymous and all other check boxes are grayed out. Can someone tell me what happened or how to fix it. I even reinstalled FP extensions. Godaddy's control panel seems limited. Windows server seemed much easier to work with. Link to form:
