So you lose a potential customer because they don't like the look of your site or whatever, stopbounce.com pays you a very small fee, then they direct the customer to one of your competitors? Call me cynical, but I'm not convinced. [8|]

i find it offensive - its hijacking my pc - when i it "back", i expect to go back - to the last page not be hijacked

They want to advertise on OutFront. I love to make ad money, but I know that I have gone overboard with that in the recent past. I'm not sure that I should sell ads to anyone who wants to pay for one.

Mmmmmm interesting. If you keep a high percentage of your visitors then it's probably not worth alienating those who accidentally clicked on your bookmark and want to go back.

If you do lose a high percentage because they're too stupid to read the site content info on Google etc. before clicking, then I suppose you might as well make money out of them.

I'd be interested to know what the income rate is.

[edit] Oh duh... $10 per month for an average site (per 1000 page impressions). Not good is it. [&:]

It depends how much they want to pay Tom. Let's face it, people get a lot of free help on here and if putting a few high paying ads on the site allows you to pay the selfless, wonderful, mods a huge annual salary then I'm sure nobody will object. [sm=whistling.gif]

I have never seen the sense in using an advertising service that allows potential competitors to advertise on your pages. That's why serious commercial sites who are competing in the "real world" market place with "real" products don't tend to have google ads on their pages.

Although this one directs visitors as they leave if you look at the long term implications all you are doing is showing potential customers another alternative. In most businesses that would not be contemplated. Let them find their own alternative, I would make it easy to find you and give no route from you to your competition.

Also as a user I agree with Dan's point, if I click the back button I don't want a magical mystery tour - I just want to go back. People will start to think their browser has been hijacked and in a way they will be right.

Business sites, yes I'd agree but sites that are not selling anything have a way to make some money to cover their costs.

I didn't mean to criticise outfront I was just making a distinction between "bricks and mortar" type businessess and "on-line" businesses.

Business sites, yes I'd agree but sites that are not selling anything have a way to make some money to cover their costs.

I would still try and only take ads from complimentary non-competitive organisations.

I think 20% visitors are bound to leave your site but even you have 80% visitors on your site to concentrate. If you use some SEO techniques you can be able to retain some of them.
