Womble,

quote:

Uses the same image for both the thumbnail & the larger view.

Wouldn't this increase load time for the "default" page. The way it reads it sounded like the source image is the large image?

Sorry for my confusion,

Brian

The source image is the large image so if you have a lot of them then you do have to wait for it to load. I think what Womble meant was with other hover galleries you have to wait for the thumbs to load and then the full size as well.

Yes that's a Stu Nichol special, the only problem with it is as soon as you move the mouse you lose the image. Lightbox leaves it static until you do something with it.

Hi Jurgen - I liked that as well and added something similar to our main corporate Intranet last year, but had a few users whine, so removed it. 1 or 2 grumbles I usually ignore, depending on who they are, but there was a handful of sensible people who were not keen on it.

I think people prefer galleries where the user is in control. The main complaint was that they did not like the image opening if they unintentionally moved the mouse across it - even though I noted that on the gallery page. Fair enough really, I too like being in control of what larger images I see and want to control the opening and closing.

Could be I just have whingey users :)

Thanks for the updated link Jaybee, looks good :)

Hello Sally, I think for my purposes it works just fine and the larger images are not to over powering the page. I did run it by a few people and they all liked it.

Maybe a note on the page might work:
:)Warning, do not move mouse over the images.... it might bite you.... :)

Jurgen, it looks nice on your page.

Funnily enough I did have a note on the gallery page saying when the larger image would appear (though I neglected to add it would bite :)). I love playing with things like this, but all in all my personal preference as a user is to have control.
