Why can't I insert a table? - 6/13/2001 19:17:00
This is my first time to this forum, so please don't smack me about if I ask a question which has been asked before or should never have been asked in the first place. ;-)I thought I was reasonably handy with FP2000 and could even write some (messy) html on my own, but it turns out I'm actually stupid. I recently started using one of the Outfront templates (Stackup) and I want to insert a small table within the main text cell of the existing table (I'm not describing this very well) and everytime I try it, my vertical nav bar (on the left) disappears in Preview. S'up? Can't this be done?

Hi and welcome! We don't smack around here (at least not too much). You should be able to place a table in the body of your template. Instead of "Preview" have you tried "Preview in Browser" to see if you get the same results? Sometimes Preview isn't real accurate, but your browser should be. Sorry, I should have been clearer -- it is specifically in "Preview in Browser" that the nav bar isn't visible. It is visible in "Preview". At first I thought the nav bar might be something which uses FP extensions and so must be published in order to work properly, but that doesn't seem to be the case (see a mockup at http://www.thebeachagent.com/stackup/Default.htm ). Since I've just started using the template it was easy for me to take out any other modifications I'd made (including the Human Click button you see at the URL above) and it seems that the table is the problem. Any other suggestions would be hugely appreciated.Cheers, Tony

I just looked at your page. Where are you trying to add the table? In the orange part?I would go back to the point where you still had navigation just to be sure adding a table is the problem. Are you adding a table by Table > Insert > Table? or are you adding one of the includes? Sandy ------------------ Stu Reilly Design Allegheny Web Dreamweaver Sites

Yes, the photo in the orange part is in one cell of the table I inserted and the text to the right of the photo is in another cell. I used Table > Insert > Table to insert directly into the orange part of this page. I didn't think this part of the page was an include, so I simply inserted the table into the page. That must be right, because you're supposed to be able to place different text here on each page, unlike the "message boxes" to the right which remain the same on each page, because the text is taken from an include file.I've tried going back to the original files which came in the .exe file for the template and starting over by only inserting a table and doing nothing else. It still makes the nav bar disappear. I must be missing something! Oh well, I'll just go back and try it again step by step. Thanks for your help, Sandy/Goober!
