Can Frontpage Extensions & SSL co-exist on same server? - 5/1/2006 14:09:54
Hello,
I am having some issues with securing some of my web pages. The website is on Windows 2003 server with Frontpage Extensions. My network admin says that I can't have a SSL certificate on the same server as Frontpage Extensions - is that true? If not, why do all the settings disappear as soon as the SSL is put on the server? And if yes, what are my options to have some secure pages?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

- That's incorrect. The problem (if it still exists), is that frontpage forms/guestbooks and such will not work under https.

Thanks for the response.

If I was to convert all the forms to ASP, how would you go about installing the SSL certificate? It's generated by our own server and not obtained from Verisign etc.

Another aside to this - how does Sharepoint Services play a role in all this?

The reason I am asking all this is because my network admin doesn't know anything about Frontpage or Sharepoint. He's more of a mainframe guy.

Your network admin needs to know nothing about FrontPage or Sharepoint to install the SSL certificate.

In your IIS on your web server , right click on your web, click properties, and then go to Directory Security.. Click Server Certificate and follow the wizard.

http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-support/cert_installation/iis_ssl_certificate_5x.html

make sure port 443 is open in your router / firewall and make sure your router allows https for this IP on port 443. Then all should be fine.

BobbyDouglas, you say that the frontpage forms will not work under https. Is there any way to put the SSL on a certain directory on the website? I don't need to make the whole website secure.

you can put the ssl cert on the whole site and it will only affect those pages when people use: https instead opf http. So refer to your other pages as http, and only the secure ones as https, and you will be fine.
