- I agree with you here. I was mainly getting at that you need to at least know the industry; you don't necessarily have to be an expert in each field.

i tend to agree with you yb. a skilled manager can manage a company or project without being an expert inthat field. in the corp world, CEOs change companies and industries and are heavily recruited. th expert worker doesnt always make a good manager

For what it's worth I agree too - having spent a fair amount of time working in HR I can tell you that we had a lot of Project Managers in the IT Dept - don't think any of them had any specific technical knowledge related to the projects they were involved with.
