inserting menus onto page - 5/9/2006 10:09:37
i am having so much trouble putting a menu on my page. i have no i dea what i am doing wrong. i amusing DW8, i am not sure if i have the code in properly. i am following the directions on thier pages but it dosnt work.

i found some menus off of the hotscript web page, the ones that you can make and they send you the files to put in your pages. i dont know how to make them from scratch.

would themenu work any differently if i just used rollover images that i made in photoshop?

thanks
Lisa

Do you have a link to a page / script you're working on or can you post some code?

I tend to use menus that are based on CSS and unordered lists - <ul><li> stuff - so editing them is easier than most.

Think you need to go to the code view and insert the code you get from photoshop into that. Know for sure that is what you do in FP and think DW is the same.

okay. the page is www.planethi-fi.com

the vertical menu is the one im talking about. the one that is there is the one i made by using images from photoshop and inserting it into tables and using the insert rollover command in DW. the links dont go anywhere yet. will this be an okay way to do it? there is no code for the menus from the web pages i found , i am using another tesst page.

i put the code for the menus in the area and the other code for the .js at the bottom before the closing <body> tag but the menus dont work. it looks normal in the display mode but when i go to preview, i just get little grey boxes.

i can put up the tesst page with all of the mess i made if that would help more to see what i was trying to do

thanks for all of your help

Lisa

Sorry, I misunderstood what you wanted. These look like mouseovers and not what I understand as a menu (or are these *supposed* to be hierarchial menus?)

no, you didnt understand, what i have done is mousovers to be used as a menu.

i want to do it the right way and use a correct "menu" i found some on the web but when i try to insert them they dont work and i just get gray boxes. the menus i have found are javascript and i have put the code in the way they described but it still dosnt work.

Here are a few I found to be quite good and relatively straight-forward. I use adaptations of them in my own sites.

In no special order:

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/horizdropdowns/

http://solardreamstudios.com/learn/css/cssmenus/

and of course:

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dropdowns (Suckerfish)

Those any help?
