Reflect -> Online CSS layout generator (5/12/2006 10:01:20)

Hello,

I came across this one last night. A member here turned me on to P.I.E. (Position Is Everything) a while back. I came accross this while hitting there site last night for thoughts on a new design I am in the middle of a project with.

I thought it was quite cool and also very compliant code.

Best thng I like is it is "source ordered". Makes for nice SEO templates [;)].

Take care,

Brian

Caramba! When did that turn up on there? Wasn't there the last time I looked. Cooo more to stop me from doing actual work. [&o]

If I remeber right you steered me to the site initialy. I hadn't been there in a few months but I know it wasn't up then.

Take care,

Brian

That's a great find Brian, and very timely, thanks!

I have one problem with layouts generated by that. The humungous amount of css which is full to the brim of hacks for IE, Mac etc. A beginner would have the layout broken in no time.

Eeek! Just look at all those options!

Nice tool to play with though if I need something to distract me from doing what I should be doing! [:D]

I thought that's what this site was for. [8|] [;)]

Seriously tho, for all these different generators out there, do you actually use them. Or are they just curiosities?

I've never been able to make good use of them. I've tried in the past and ended up (IMO) spending more time hacking and figuring out the generated code than I do writing the code myself.

Oh sure, I see value in them as a teaching aid but to put them into real world application is another story entirely. At least that's how I view them.

Exactly - I agree 100%.

I tend to re-use the bare-bones of layouts I've used before.

womble -> RE: Online CSS layout generator (5/16/2006 10:07:49)

Me too. Like Tail I tend to recycle the basic layouts I've used before (that's why I'm a womble - womble's recycle things [;)]). I tend to have a play around with things like that when I'm getting bored of staring at the screen for too long.

Like Rodger though, I usually tend to spend more time figuring them out than usefully using them - at least with stuff I've used before it's tried and tested by me (not that I'm a control freak or anything [:D]) and as Jaybee said that css is so full of hacks...on the positive side with that one though, all the hacks are very well documented.
