A quickie on Meta Tags - 5/12/2006 11:59:42
This is probably a detail, but I'm curious: Is there anything wrong with these Meta Tags?

<META NAME="RATING" CONTENT="General">
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="index, follow">
<META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="4 weeks">
<meta name="googlebot" content="index, follow">

Is the order 'correct'? Does it make any difference? Does upper or lower case make any difference? Should <META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="4 weeks"> precede or follow <meta name="googlebot" content="index, follow">?

Thanks for your time,

John.

Hi John,

This is what I would do

Lose <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="index, follow"> as robots do this naturally. Now if you want to block that is another thing.

Lose <META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="4 weeks"> as the robots will ignore this. They really don't care :).

Lose <meta name="googlebot" content="index, follow"> same as the first response.

I also would add:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Language" CONTENT="en-us">

If your site is in english.

Take care,

Brian

Hi, Brian,

My reply is ages overdo, and I apologise. Thank you for your thoughts on this. :)

I will be following up on what you've said (though now I'm off on vacation for 2 weeks - yee-hah!).

Kind regards,

John.

When you get a chance, take a look at Archive for Meta Tags as well. Michael has provided some pretty good information as well.
