can't add shared borders - 5/13/2006 14:19:30
I have top and left shared borders and want to add a right shared border with a navigation - but fp won't do it.

I open shared borders, click all pages, check the box for right w/nav - but nothing happens.

I can add a right border without a nav - but that's not what I want.

Any suggestions?

thanks.

To eliminate the obvious, do you have two or more pages in your web and are two or more included in the navigation view?

Hi,

Yes, I do. (I actually have close to 400 pages). I've been able to add the right border...but now my problem is that on about 10 pages the right border shows up on my local version- but does not show up when I publish.

These 10 pages are all the child pages of a single page.

Any suggestions?

thanks for the help.

go to the page(s) you want the shared borders on and add the right border from there. it's possible the choosing of "all pages" will only work with newly created pages and not existing pages.

thanks - but do you know why my borders are showing up in my fp/local site but not when I publish?

perhaps, just perhaps, it's a "refresh problem"?

With FP2002 when changing shared borders I have had to republish the entire web, sadly. I think that it may be a "feature".

Thanks - I have 2003 - but I think I have to republish the entire site as well.

I appreciate the help.

Sadly it does sound as if the part of the head tags that deal with the shared borders may be being missed when you publish changed pages with changed shared borders. :)

Now when I try to publish the entire site - it stops about 30 minutes in saying the server is unavailable - or not working. This doesn't happen when I publish changed pages only.

Do you think it is timing out for some reason? Do you know how to prevent that?

thanks.

Sounds suspiciously like a timeout.

My best suggestion is to select most of the pages on your development web and choose the "Don't publish" option from the context menu. Publish a proportion of the web (you'll know how much is published (roughly) before it times out) then reset the items not to publish and publish some more.

Alternatively, clear down the published web so that the domain is in its default state and publish in the normal way. As all the files are changed (because they are not there) they will all be published. Then, if the publish times out you can restart it and the correct files already published will be ignored and the process should proceed from where it left off.
